Second Lithuanian C-27J Spartan named Algirdas

The name will be solemnly bestowed on the aircraft at the LAF Aviation Base in Siauliai on December 17. C-27J Spartan will be blessed by the Chaplain of Siauliai Garrison Tomas Rainys. The name for the aircraft was selected following a tradition – the first C-27J Spartan was named after the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas. The second C-27J Spartan was delivered to Lithuania on December 6. Lithuanian Armed Forces signed the contract of purchasing three tactical transport aircrafts with an Italian enterprise “Alenia Aeronautika S.p.A.” in June 2006. The first of them reached Lithuania in 2006, the third is expected to be delivered next year
