Azerbaijan to participate in NATO events
January 19, 2009, Baku -- Azerbaijan's military is to take part in a variety of NATO events under the Partnership for Peace (PfP) program, the country's Defense Ministry said on Monday.
NATO-Azerbaijan relations date back to 1992, when Azerbaijan joined the North Atlantic Cooperation Council (later renamed the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council in 1997). Cooperation has steadily increased since Azerbaijan joined the Partnership for Peace program in 1994 and the PfP Planning and Review Process in 1997.
On January 19-23, Azerbaijani military officials will participate in the Cooperative Lancer/Longbow-2009 exercise planning conference in Tbilisi.
On January 26-30, they will take part in the Cooperative Marlin-2009 exercise planning conference in Turkey and on January 21-22 - in the PfP planning symposium in Obermergau, Germany.
Azerbaijan will also participate in a number of training courses and conferences as part of bilateral agreements with the United States, Romania, Britain, Germany and Turkey.(RIA Novosti)
