January 24, 2009 -- SLAF MI-24 helicopter gunships launched ground support air assaults targeting identified LTTE resistance positions located North of Udayarkattukulama and Visuamadu, Mullaittivu, since morning today (Jan 24).

According to Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, SLAF helicopter gunships raided a pre-identified LTTE resistance position, 3.5km North of the Visuamadukulama Tank in support of the 58 Division troops at around 11.20a.m.

At 4.30 p.m., another air assault was launched in support of the Task Force -3 troops, targeting an LTTE resistance position 2km Northeast of the Udayarkattukulama Tank, the spokesperson further said. (defence.lk)
