The Royal Marine Squadron Reconnaissance Team (SRT) is a small group of specialist Royal Marines who are involved with Beach Reconnaissance and are part of 539 Assault Squadrons Amphibious Beach Unit.
The main role of the specialist 6 man teams is Beach Reconnaissance. This involves landing on to a beach by a variety of methods including boat, swimming, overland and even deploying from aircraft and submarines. Once on the beach the team survey its suitability for different types of landing crafts by checking depths, beach composition, exits for troops and vehicles and general information to assist the planners of future operations.(royal-navy.mod.uk)
