Re-organising the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF)

Bolkiah Garison –- One of the roles of the Ministry of Defence is to enhance the capabilities of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) as outlined in the Defence White Paper Update 2007. Towards this, the Ministry of Defence has re-organised the RBAF in line with the current environment.

One of the steps taken was the disbandment of the Support Service of the RBAF and relocating its units to various divisions within the Ministry of Defence and units in the RBAF beginning on 2 January this year.

Support Service RBAF was established in 01 October 1991 and was one of the five major units in the RBAF, namely the Royal Brunei Land Force, the Royal Brunei Navy, the Royal Brunei Airforce and the RBAF Training Institute. Among the main functions and responsibilities of the Support Service were to provide support to the RBAF units in the areas of management, security, medical, logistics, communication, transportation and technical support. Since its inception, the Support Service supervised 21 units under its command.

The official ceremony to mark the relocation of the units under the Support Service was held on Friday, 2 January 2009 at the Parade Square A, Bolkiah Garrison. In her speech, the Deputy Commandant Support Service RBAF, Lieutenant Colonel Hajah Hasimah bte Haji Abu Bakar expressed her utmost appreciation and thanks to all the personnel and members of the Support Service for the services, sacrifices, support and cooperation they rendered to the unit.

The highlight of the event was the lowering of the flag of the Support Service of the RBAF and the presentation of certificates to mark the relocation of the units to the representatives of the Ministry of Defence, Services units and Training Institute of the RBAF. (mindef.gov.bn)
