Israeli forces trying to enter Gaza City

Sat, 10 Jan 2009 07:01:24 GMT -- Israeli forces are trying to enter Gaza City through Sofa and Kissufim crossings on the 15th day of the Israeli incursion into the besieged region.

The al-Aqsa TV station, affiliated with Hamas says that the Palestinian fighters are clashing with invading Israeli troops.

Israel presses on with the Gaza offensive in defiance to international efforts to stop it.

Hamas says it has sent more rockets into southern Israeli towns on Saturday morning to retaliate deadly Israeli attacks.

The Israeli military said it carried out more than 70 air strikes in the Gaza Strip on Friday.

Tel Aviv carried out the attacks hours after the UN Security Council voted for Resolution 1860 calling for an 'immediate' and 'durable' ceasefire followed by the 'full withdrawal' of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.

Israel attacked Gaza on December 27 and has so far killed 804 Palestinians and wounded at least 3,330 others including women and children.

Hamas says Palestinian resistance fighters have killed at least 30 Israeli soldiers and wounded more than 80 others since the start of the Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip.

Tel Aviv has only confirmed the death of 10 soldiers and says that only 80 other IDF troops are wounded. (MSH/DT @PRESS TV)
